We need to love each other because love is godly. If we don’t love, then we can’t say that we know God because God is love.
It’s easy for me to love the people that I know. But when it comes to celebrities or politicians, it’s pretty easy for me to hate them. I think this stems from not thinking of them as people, but as concepts. It’s easy to hate Paris Hilton because she represents sexual immorality, sloth, and injustice.
I need to be reminded that Paris Hilton is a person. Not only that, but she was created by God and he loves her. I mean, if she is worthy of love from the God that I claim to serve, who am I to deny her my own love?
When asked which is the greatest command, Jesus said it is to love God with all our hearts, souls, and minds. But he didn’t stop there. He said there is a second command just like it: to love others as we love ourselves.
If there are only two things we can do for God, I think that loving him and loving others (including celebrities and politicians) would be the best to pick.
God is love.
Let’s show him to others.
