The Dark Knight

7.5/10

The Dark Knight poster

I was not expecting this film to be so morbid. It reminded me of Saw in some ways. I wouldn’t recommend it at all for children under 13, there were a few scenes and themes that were just too disturbing.

That being said, there were some really awesome action scenes. I would tell you what my favorite action parts were, but I don’t want to spoil them. Let’s just say one is a stunt with the Batpod and the other is at the end of Batman’s extraction of Lau. I also liked the cleverness of the Joker’s bank robbery and Batman’s plan to capture Lau.

Heath Ledger gave an amazingly demented performance as the Joker; you could hardly tell it was him. Maggie Gyllenhaal didn’t try to play the same Rachel character that Katie Holmes created in Batman Begins. Neither did she do well in conveying Rachel’s conflicted emotions. Christian Bale and Aaron Eckhart were spot-on for their roles. Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine were enjoyable, as always.

Overall, I thought the story was too depressing and morbid, but the acting and action were great.

You forgot to mention the fact that I spent the entire movie with my head burrowed in your shoulder because I HATED THIS MOVIE. Dark and sinister and evil and disgusting. I thought Maggie Gyllenhaal was absolutely terrible. The plot was twisted and confusing and tried to do too much. It was so busy that no storyline or theme was properly developed. The movie just ran through each one in an effort to get to the next point.
One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. I will not be recommending it to anyone, ever.

Wow Molly don't hold back. LOL. I have to say I loved it. Batman is dark and depressing. It was long, but that gave it a chance to explain and play everything out fully. The only complaint I had was Maggie Gyllenhaal. I hate when different actors/actresses try to play a character already done by someone else. Heath Ledger was amazing. The only scene I could tell it was him was the interrogation scene. I also liked the philosophical aspects of the movie. The constant fight between what we need to do and what we want to do. I honestly believe it was the best comic book movie made so far and one of the best movies I have seen.
