Memorial Day Weekend

Saturday morning, I went out to buy Cloud Cult’s brilliant “Advice from the Happy Hippopotamus” and some groceries. First, I stopped at Best Buy where they didn’t have any Cloud Cult cds. Then, I went to Borders, and they only had “The Meaning of 8” and “Feel Good Ghosts.” Finally, I went to Barnes & Noble and they had zero Cloud Cult cds. It was a sad state of affairs. I ended up ordering the album directly from the band’s website. It’s kind of a bummer that I have to wait for it to ship, but at least the purchase comes with a proper mp3 download for (nearly) instantaneous aural gratification.

Since I was in Westlake, I saw a Marc’s grocery store which is supposed to be pretty cheap. Molly and I had a bad experience with a Marc’s store in Strongsville, but I was feeling adventurous and decided to try out this branch. Yeah, it still sucked. Especially because I forgot they only take cash, check, or Discover credit cards (none of which I had). Any money I might have saved on groceries was probably offset by ATM transaction fees. Some other problems I have with Marc’s are that the aisles are way too small and the products are not laid out in a logical manner, which makes it frustrating to find the things on my grocery list.

While I was out, Molly’s parents arrived. They came up to go to a baseball game with us. Her dad caught a free hot dog and the Indians beat the Rangers. Molly claims that she is good luck because they’ve won every game she went to this season. Unfortunately, she couldn’t go yesterday and the Indians were defeated. I think they should pay her to attend their games. ;)

Yesterday, we went to Texas Roadhouse for lunch. I wasn’t too impressed. Their hot wings had a strange spice that I didn’t like. My 8 oz. sirloin didn’t taste that great and their steak sauce wasn’t good, either. Luckily, Molly had ordered some sautéed mushrooms and adding that to the steak made it a much more enjoyable dish. I really liked their steak fries, though. Whatever seasoning they use on the fries is great. It wasn’t a really bad experience, but the prices are too high for just an okay meal.

We didn’t do much today, but it was nice to have a day off from work. I’d say that we got about half of our To-Do list complete. Not too shabby, but that other stuff still needs to get done this week.
