2009 U.S. Figure Skating Championships
January 22nd, 2009
Molly has been volunteering at the Figure Skating Championships, so she got some free tickets. We went to a session last night after work. We arrived halfway through the junior pairs short program, watched the opening ceremony, and left after the first batch of junior ladies free skate.
Other than one of the ladies running into the wall and almost slicing her partners wrist, the opening ceremony was the most exciting part. A poem that should have been a rousing read was delivered by the president of the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission with the enthusiasm of Ben Stein’s character in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Fortunately, the Cleveland area skating clubs put on a much more impressive performance. The music, lights, and skating combined pretty well to make an enjoyable display of talent.

Sledding is way more fun and requires very little talent!
